HEY SUN

by FELICITY GROOM

/

about

Once upon a time, in a suburban Perth, young Groom first met a young Heath Ledger at a school social.

In those teen years of warping bodies and expanding horizons, Groom and Ledger danced around each other at various performances and parties. She witnessed this kid work hard and catapult himself from chicken advert to Hollywood and it provided the teenage Groom such focus in her own path.

She looked forward to the time when she could thank him for that. Many years later that name came back into her home through two separate musicians from LA visiting town at the same time. As the last song written for Magnetic Resonance Centre, Hey Sun was forged as an open letter to a big influence on a small town teen.

lyrics

I met you when I was twelve
Such a confident kid
your magic shows well known
You already had tricks hid

We’d knock about
And then sometimes
You’d pass me in the stairwells
You had somewhere to go
No time to say our farewells

You breezed through like a song
And your shadow lingers on forever

I recall
you walked
in a room
Like someone
Said hey sun
and the moon
get down from there, try squeeze in this square
and Olympia admires
how you ran fast with that fire
this small town kid could aspire too

One minute I was in your house
The next you were in mine.
Not physically there.
You share bright lights this time
And as I saw it's possible
I put my head down too
and plowed in fields of sound
I owe this tune to you

You breezed through like a song
And your shadow lingers on forever

I kept a picture
of you
from a paper
to remind me
That anything is possible
Maybe for you especially
Im just glad the world
got to see what
I got to see.

I recall
you walked
in a room
Like someone
Said hey sun
and the moon
get down from there, try squeeze in this square
and you had to be returning
left Olympia still burning
lived life bright and then journeying on
